In this workshop, learn how to draw letters in various styles, plan and design your chalk phrase, and add embellishments and dimension to your design. Chalk is a great medium to work with because everything is erasable – making it perfect for all skill levels. With these basic skills and some hard work, you can create beautiful chalk art designs. Meet vibrant Chicana artist and author Carmen Lomas Garza through her book Family Pictures/Cuadros de Familia. Garza is known for telling her stories through illustrations of family traditions and community. In this workshop, students will discover and respect differences and similarities in the cultural heritage of Ms. Garza, themselves and members of their community. Using watercolors, students can create a painting expressing their own family story. Recommended for students in grades 1-4. Space is limited; registration is required. Anythink York Street offers a monthly morning book club with a very different style: we choose a theme for the meeting, and you choose the book you want to read based on that theme. Each person discusses their choice. It’s a fun way to discover new authors and books while reading a title that speaks to you. Bring your pick and a morning beverage, and we’ll talk books.
