Anythink hosts author Matt de la Peña for mySummer program
As part of this year’s mySummer initiative, Anythink hosts acclaimed author Matt de la Peña at Anythink locations from Wednesday, June 15 to Saturday, June 18. De la Peña will lead storytimes and discussions of his children’s book, “Carmela Full of Wishes.” The storytimes will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing with the author. Copies of de la Peña’s book are available free to attendees while supplies last.
“Carmela Full of Wishes” describes the day of a young Latina girl, Carmela, and her older brother as they complete family errands in their neighborhood. When Carmela finds a dandelion, she learns to make a wish. Children, families and caregivers will connect to the hopeful message of the book as they visit their local Anythink and experience the theme of mySummer 2022: “Wishes for ourselves, wishes for others and wishes for our future.”
“We look forward to offering these special storytimes with Matt de la Peña at Anythink,” says Whitney Oakley, branch manager at Anythink Bennett. “Library programs like these help support early literacy in children and inspire continuous learning throughout the year.”
De la Peña is the #1 New York Times bestselling, Newbery Medal-winning author of seven young adult novels (including “Mexican WhiteBoy” and “We Were Here”) and six picture books (including “Milo Imagines the World” and “Last Stop on Market Street”). In 2016, he was awarded the NCTE Intellectual Freedom Award. He received his MFA in creative writing from San Diego State University and his BA from the University of the Pacific where he attended school on a full basketball scholarship.
Media interested in arranging an interview with the author should contact Stacie Ledden at sledden@anythinklibraries.org.
