Anythink to open new public library in Thornton, Colo.
On June 1, 2013, Anythink will open the doors to a new public library in Thornton, Colo. In this unique community partnership, the public library will be housed on Mapleton Public School’s Skyview Campus at 8990 York Street in southeast Thornton and will continue to serve community members of all ages with Anythink’s innovative service model, emphasizing creativity and learning through participation.
Though located on a school campus that houses five different educational facilities for students of a wide variety of ages, Anythink York Street will serve as a public library for the entire community of Thornton and Adams County.
“This partnership gives Anythink yet another opportunity to serve our community in a creative way,” says Anythink Director Pam Sandlian Smith. “Having a public library on a school campus is a magnificent way to stretch our limited resources. Our community gets a brand new beautiful library and the students have access to Anythink.”
As lessees of the 9,388-square-foot library space, Anythink will maintain their standard policies and procedures, providing the community with an all-ages collection and the innovative programming and services experienced at all Anythink locations.
“This partnership with Anythink Libraries is so unique,” says Charlotte Ciancio, Superintendent of Schools at Mapleton Public Schools. “It will make it possible for us to bring much-needed resources to the heart of the Thornton community. Like Mapleton, Anythink is rooted in bringing engaging, educational opportunities to families that will inspire a love of learning. We are thrilled and are looking forward to the exciting possibilities this collaboration will bring to our community.”
“We are excited about this innovative mixed-use partnership between Anythink Libraries and Mapleton Public Schools to offer public library service in the original part of Thornton. Integrating the public library on the new high school campus will be an exciting opportunity to bring our community and our schools together,” said Thornton Mayor Heidi Williams.
In order to facilitate this new endeavor, Anythink Washington Street, located less than a mile from the new library location, will permanently close on April 12, 2013. The new Anythink York Street will continue to serve that same community on the east side of Interstate 25 in Thornton. Anythink Washington Street customers will recognize their same Anythink staff members at this new location, and will also have access to more computers, stronger Internet bandwidth and a larger facility and collection. Additionally, unlike the current Washington Street location, Anythink York Street will be open on Saturdays in addition to maintaining weekday and evening hours.
Anythink Washington Street customers are encouraged to visit Anythink Huron Street (1.9 miles) and Anythink Perl Mack (2.9 miles) for programs, library services and returns while the library is closed.
