Community Gathers to Celebrate Grand Opening of Anythink Library Branch at New Thornton Community Center

On October 26, Anythink Libraries unveiled a new location at the new Thornton Community Center. Thousands of community members gathered to celebrate the new space and explored the building’s amenities through self-guided tours and a scavenger hunt. Event attendees met with the Broncos cheerleaders, and enjoyed a live performance by a violinist as well as a breakdancing showcase by Bboy Factory, a dance school based in Denver.

The Anythink Thornton Community Center Library is now open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. — 7:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Key features of the library include the makerspace for crafting activities, a whimsical children’s area, a cozy teen area, and inviting outdoor spaces surrounding the building.

“This community center is a canvas for our collective creativity,” noted Mark Fink, Executive Director of Anythink Libraries. “Anythink is excited to provide books, tools, programs, resources and expertise to help folks explore their creative journeys. We encourage everyone to visit and use this new space - whether it’s attending a story time or program, taking a class, or relaxing in the meditation garden. Community voices and contributions will shape what this space becomes.”

The Thornton Community Center features a gymnasium, boxing gym, dance studios, and shared spaces. The building’s design by Studiotrope Design Collective reflects the community’s commitment to sustainability and innovative architecture by reducing the need for residents to travel to separate facilities.

“We’re really proud of what this new Anythink branch has to offer,” said Jakob Seelig, manager of the Anythink branch at the Thornton Community Center. “I’m excited about planning programs in the beautiful outdoor spaces around the building. As with all our Anythink locations, there’s a beautiful tree installation for kids to climb into and explore. There are opportunities to learn new skills and technologies in the Studio. It’s also really convenient that the rec center and library branch are located in the same building. Visitors can easily pick up books after working out.”

“The opening of the new Anythink Thornton Community Center demonstrates our commitment to providing modern amenities for all of our residents,” said Jan Kulmann, City of Thornton Mayor. “This beautiful facility will be a focus of activity and opportunity for the people in south Thornton and we hope residents from across the city will come to experience all that it has to offer. Our partnership with Anythink Libraries ensures the Community Center will provide a unique experience.”
