In late 2018, Anythink hosted The Kitchen Table, a multi-sensory experience at its Anythink Wright Farms location in Thornton. In this transformed space, the library recreated one of the most common gathering spaces and invited friends, family members and strangers to take a seat. With prompts, games and conversation pieces, people were encouraged to create connections through meaningful dialogue and activities. As part of this project, Anythink recorded several of these conversations, now available as a podcast series.

With a total of five episodes, The Kitchen Table podcast highlights the diversity of the Adams County community. Participants, all current residents of Thornton, recount their childhoods in India, Taiwan, New York City and the small towns of Colorado. With friends, loved ones and Anythink staff, they share stories about the food, family and traditions that have impacted their lives.

“The library is not only a place where you can immerse yourself in other people’s stories, but a place to tell your own story,” says Anythink Director of Innovations and Brand Strategy Stacie Ledden. “The Kitchen Table podcast embodies all of the things we celebrate at Anythink: providing a space for people to come together, storytelling, and utilizing tools we offer at the library to share those stories. The Kitchen Table is a must-listen for podcast fans and anyone interested in the rich cultural heritage of the people who live here in Adams County.”

The Kitchen Table is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud and online at anythinklibraries.org/kitchen-table.

The Kitchen Table was made using recording tools and software available at The Studio at Anythink, including Audio-Tehcnica microphones, Rode Smart Lav+ lavaliers, Sony MDR 7506 headphones, Adobe Audition and the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface. The podcast series was edited with the help of community partner Denver Open Media. The recording studio at Anythink Wright Farms is available for use Monday-Thursday, 9:30 am-8 pm and on Friday and Saturday from 9:30 am-5 pm. The space is reserved for teens from 3-6 pm.
