New Brighton Library Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12
On Saturday, September 12, 2009, residents of Brighton will finally get a chance to see the new, beautiful 20,000-square-foot library building on Bridge Street during the grand opening celebration. All the programs at the library that day will be interactive and highlight the building’s features.
Festivities will begin at 1 pm with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. From 2:30-6 pm, visitors can sign up for half-hour sessions available throughout the library that afternoon that focus on food, music, dance, art and technology. There will be cooking classes, chalk art demonstrations, and the Kazoo Hullabaloo, where anyone – no matter their musical talent – can participate in a kazoo orchestra. Visitors can also learn to folk, hip-hop and swing dance, or check out some of the newest technologies in the Tech Petting Zoo. The Tikkun Olam tile exhibit will also be on display, courtesy of the Mizel Museum. For a complete schedule of events, go to anythinklibraries.org. Space is limited for each of the day’s sessions; sign-up is required at the check-in table the day of the event. Food from local restaurants and growers will also be available.
Brighton residents are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event and decorate them in red, orange and white. The best decorations will win cool prizes, and free bike tune-ups will be available, courtesy of REI. Handicap parking is available on site; the public is encouraged to park in the municipal parking areas west of the library, east at Valley Bank or in surrounding areas where indicated.
In
conjunction with the Brighton Library grand opening, Rangeview Library District
is launching its new brand district-wide on September 12. The new brand better
reflects the district’s new style of library, which strives to offer a
transformative experience to every person who walks through the door.
Anyone
interested in volunteering for the event can contact special events/logistics
coordinator Lisa Maurer at lmaurer@rangeviewld.org or 720-281-7911.
