In honor of Children’s Book Week, May 10-16, 2010, Rangeview Library District’s Anythink libraries are asking kids to think about their favorite books and characters by creating their own keepsake bookmark and list of their favorite books. Activity sheets are available beginning May 10 at all Anythink locations.

Yet the fun doesn’t stop there. On June 7, Anythink is launching its new summer program – mySummer: Read Think Do. This program is based on the idea that at Anythink, you can read books, listen to music or watch a movie, contemplate what you’ve learned and go out into the world and do something with that knowledge. Through hands-on programming, creative outlets and sparks of imagination, you can make this summer everything you want it to be. mySummer runs from June 7-July 31, 2010, and is geared ages birth to 100. Children’s Book Week has been celebrated nationally since 1919 as a way to remind people that children’s books can change lives. It was based on the idea of Franklin K. Mattiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, who said, “A great nation is a reading nation.” As it’s grown, CBW also inspired the Children’s Choice Book Awards – the only national child-selected book awards program.
