Civic Saturday returns to Anythink® in new format
On Saturday, Oct. 24, Anythink will host its third Civic Saturday in a new format. Held online via Zoom, this gathering is an opportunity to cultivate civic engagement and community traditions. Through readings, poetry, music and discussion, participants will reflect on the theme of “Beyond the Voting Booth.” How do we re-imagine our power as citizens past election season? How do we act as a collective to build a brighter future for our democracy?
Civic Saturday is a continuation of Anythink’s commitment to provide opportunities for civic engagement, social interaction and information. As the 2020 election season approaches, Civic Saturday is an ideal way to participate in a rich dialogue designed to offer an experience that is both joyful and meaningful. By hosting this program in a virtual format, the library will be able to safely encourage interaction while also expanding access to an event that was previously on held in-person.
“Civic Saturday is just one of the many ways Anythink strives to build community and connect people around ideas and inspiration here in Adams County,” says Anythink Director of Strategic Partnerships Stacie Ledden. “During past gatherings, we’ve heard from individuals about how they have valued the opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors on what it means to be a citizen. In this new online format, Anythink staff are able to make the experience even more accessible to all – bringing community members together from throughout the county and even throughout the country. The ability to connect to others on topics that are meaningful to them is just one of the many ways that people can take action beyond the voting booth.”
This gathering is hosted in conjunction with Rocky Mountain Partnership. Local performers and guest speakers will also be featured.
Civic Saturday was first started by Citizen University, a Seattle-based organization dedicated to building a culture of powerful, responsible citizenship in the U.S. To help spread the initiative outside of Seattle, Citizen University trains individuals and organizations from across the country, including Anythink, on how to host Civic Saturdays in their own communities.
The event is free and open to all. Registration is required at anythinklibraries.org. A link to the meeting will be sent to all registrants in advance.
