Hedwig, Harry Potter’s pet owl, was loved by all. Learn about the digestive process of owls by dissecting whole owl pellets. Will you be able to recreate the mouse that Hedwig ate for dinner earlier this week? Appropriate for ages 11 to 17.

This program will be a TAKE & MAKE activity to do at home. Stop by Anythink Perl Mack to pick up your supply kit on Tuesday, October 26th.

A forest of dark green pine trees.

In the presence of trees, I am often filled with a sense of wonder. Observing them, I appreciate their poetry. At the same time, I wonder about the science of trees — I am curious about how exactly the trees I see are living in this place, in this season and in relationship to others.

For others who also respond to trees with awe and curiosity, I recommend reading the following books by Peter Wohlleben and Suzanne Simard.

Ground-level (“bad”) ozone is toxic to plants and animals, including humans. Although ozone is invisible, its effects can be observed on the leaves of certain plants. Get hands-on experience with Anythink's registered ozone bioindicator garden and see for yourself how plants can indicate what's in the air that we breathe. Learn how to detect damage on the plants and help collect data for the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Appropriate for all ages.
