Children movement

In my experience as a classroom teacher, movement breaks throughout the day were vital in keeping children engaged and preparing them to learn. In fact, my class always started the day with morning exercises. This included everything from stretches to breathing activities to jumping jacks.

Before my time as a children’s guide at Anythink Libraries, I spent 7 years as a classroom teacher. I taught ages 2 through second grade, although most of my time was spent teaching pre-kindergarten. I received my master’s degree in Early Childhood General and Special Education, so I'm excited to share some tips for at-home learning from my teaching experience.

"As homeschooling nears mainstream recognition and technology interweaves itself into our daily lives at breakneck pace, Papo provides us a timely glimpse into the lives of those who are carving an alternative path towards preparing for the future and finding a deeper way to be connected. Through their eyes we have the opportunity to consider how big or small we want our worlds to be," Ariel Shanberg, curator and writer, eagerly comments in Homeschooled.

It’s that time of year again – back-to-school time. And for many parents it’s a time to start thinking of all the various schooling options available, including homeschooling.

In recent weeks, I have personally spoken to some of you brave souls who have decided to embark on this adventure of becoming both caregiver and teacher. As a homeschooling veteran (yes, I took two children from first grade to graduation day), I love to field questions, offer advice and most of all be a source of encouragement to new homeschoolers.
