6 books to check out before they hit the big screen in 2016

2016 is going to be a great year for readers and moviegoers. With so many books being translated into movies, there is a little bit of something for every type of reader. Just like Anythink's blog post for book-to-movie adaptations in 2015, this year has its own list of movies we can't wait to see. If you haven't read any of the books on this list, check them out before they hit the big screen.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

A little bit Hunger Games, a little bit The Host, this book is an awesome, post-apocalyptic tale about a girl who is just trying to keep herself and her brother alive. The movie stars Chloe Grace Moretz from If I Stay, and just hit theaters. Check out the book first though, and then check out the rest of the series.

Miss Peregrine’s House for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This creepy tale should translate very well onto the big screen. With a deserted island, crumbling buildings, and a history left to unfold, what's not to like? Check out this book before the movie comes out in December 2016 (you have some time).

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by JK Rowling

This companion book to the infamous Harry Potter series is now being made into a movie – Potterheads rejoice! Starring Eddie Redmayne of Les Miserables fame, this is bound to be fun for the whole family. The book is super quick and easy to read, and the film adaptation is definitely different than the book. See what they did with the story in November 2016.

Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

While anxiously anticipating the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, check out the book the movie will be based on. In this installment, Alice must go back to Wonderland to save the Mad Hatter and, naturally, it's not that simple. Prepare for the movie in May 2016.

The BFG by Roald Dahl

Parents and kids alike can rejoice about this one! A classic story will be brought to life by none other than Steven Spielberg. The story is about a little girl who makes an unexpected friend despite his intimidating appearance. Parents: read this to your kids, or have them read it to you! Check out a copy and fall in love with this classic before the movie comes out in July 2016.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

If you're in the mood for a romantic tear-jerker, pick up a copy of Me Before You. In this book, a young woman becomes a caretaker for a cranky yet handsome paraplegic, and the rest is history. If you love the book as much as other readers, you'll be bringing your tissues to theaters in March 2016.
